Annapolis Synthesis Center

Overview

The facility has an electronic conference room with high speed internet, video and telephone conferencing, projection capabilities, adjacent break-out spaces all within easy walking distance to a host of restaurants, hotels, shops and historical buildings and within 30 minutes drive from a major international airport (Baltimore Washington International). During synthesis sessions, IAN Science Integrators, Science Communicators, and/or Data Analysts can be made available, depending on the specific needs of the synthesis session. The ASC synthesis sessions are designed to produce synthetic publications in high profile scientific journals, as well as produce science communication products for broad dissemination (e.g., newsletters, web sites, posters). Synthesis sessions utilize an immersive environment, with 3-5 day sessions in which draft documents and detailed work plans are developed. IAN staff provide logistic and administrative support as well as arrange for appropriate personnel support. Funding for synthesis sessions are obtained on a case-by-case basis. Cost sharing and creative funding opportunities are encouraged. IAN will attempt to fund a limited number of synthesis sessions led by University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) faculty, with a solicitation for proposals. The ASC is available for meetings, training courses and workshops pending scheduling availability. A nominal fee is charged to non-UMCES groups.

Parking

Parking is limited in Annapolis. There is no parking at the office. The closest parking garages to the Annapolis Office are the Knighton Garage, Whitmore Garage and the Gott’s Court Garage. See map above for garage locations.

Knighton Garage
From Calvert Street - turn right onto West Street. From West Street, turn left on Colonial Drive. (This turn is located right before the restaurant Lemongrass - a yellow building).

From Calvert Street, turn right onto Clay Street. Turn left into the garage.

Gott’s Court Garage – 410-263-9749
Near the Annapolis Visitors Center - the entrance is on the left off Calvert Street

To reach the office from Gott's or Whitmore Garage, walk directly up Calvert Street from the parking garages to the intersection with West Street. Cross the intersection and continue walking on what is now Cathedral Street. The office is a brown brick building on the right side of the road.

To reach the office from Knighton Garage, walk toward Church Circle on West Street (if you're standing at Colonial Avenue coming out of the garage, make a right onto West Street). At the intersection with Cathedral Street, turn right and continue walking till you reach a brown brick building on the right side of the road. The entrance to the building is around to the side.

The IAN Annapolis Synthesis Center is located on the third floor.
