Farm Security Act of 2001 HR 2646 is the House version of the Farm Bill

Conservation Security Act of 2001 HR 1949 is an alternative bill

Working Lands Stewardship Act of 2001 HR 2375  

A number of bills have been referred to the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee, but Chairman Harkin has not yet filed a comprehensive Farm Bill.  A Senate Committee hearing was held on September 26, 2001.  

Meanwhile under the Bush Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has just released a report, Food and Agriculture Policy: Taking Stock for the New Century, which argues that more of the public investments in agriculture should be directed to conservation and food safety objectives and less on subsidizing the production of major commodities. This is more in tune with the goal of amendments being to the House bill being proposed by Congressmen Kind, Gilchrest and Boehlert and the approach being taken by Senate Agriculture Chair Harkin.  Recent articles and editorials from the Washington Post and other sources on the USDA report and Farm Bill include:
