Moderate ecosystem health-highest ranked region in the Bay. Overall health dropped slightly from last year. Benthic community score decreased from 84% in 2009 to 72% in 2010.
  • Water quality: Both chlorophyll a and water clarity scores for 2010 decreased slightly from 2009—both are still consistent with scores from the past three years and remain in moderate and poor condition, respectively. After recording the lowest dissolved oxygen score on record in 2009 (74%), 2010 dissolved oxygen scores increased to 81%, which is more consistent with past years.  
  • Biotic indicators: After improving dramatically in 2009 (from 50% to 84%), benthic community condition scores declined to 72% in 2010. Phytoplankton community condition scores improved by 2% after dropping sharply in 2009, but are still poor. The aquatic grasses score remained steady at a healthy level and is the highest score of all the regions.
