The natural resources and human activities of the Yucatan State Coast. At an Aug 2016 report card workshop in Sisal Mexico, scientists and representatives from the local government and private sector assembled to begin the process of developing an ecosystem health assessment of the Yucatan State coastline. This map diagram shows the approximate locations of the natural resources and human activities in this region.

A preliminary qualitative assessment of ecosystem health of the Yucatan coast At an Aug 2016 report card workshop in Sisal Mexico, scientists and representatives from the local government and private sector assembled to begin the process of developing an ecosystem health assessment of the Yucatan State coastline. This map diagram reflects the three possible ecosystem health indicators (biodiversity, habitat, and water) chosen by workshop participants and their preliminary qualitative assessment of the condition of those indicators.

The Yucatan State Coast of Mexico has an abundance of natural and economic benefits and yet faces challenges At an Aug 2016 report card workshop in Sisal Mexico, scientists and representatives from the local government and private sector assembled to begin the process of developing an ecosystem health assessment of the Yucatan State coastline. This diagram reflects the group consensus of the ecological values of and threats to this region.

Pound net The oldest type of net used by the Chesapeake Bay watermen is called a pound net. Wooden stakes are pushed into the bottom of the Bay, spaced apart in a line that runs across the tide. Nets are strung between the stakes and along the bottom of the river, making a fish trap. In late February the pound netter starts to put in the stakes. By the middle of March he will set his nets and start fishing. Each day the waterman goes out to the pound net and scoops the fish out with a hand net. He will not remove the pound net, except for many repairs, until November. fishing, occupation, livelihood,Talbot County,Maryland

Hardened shoreline prevents erosion. Stone rip-rap installed by the property owners in an attempt to prevent shoreline erosion. Hardened edges along the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers reduces natural shoreline habitat that fish and other marine animals depend on for food and shelter. bulkhead, protection, stabilize, habitat, vegetation, amphibian, reptile, invertebrate, insect, wetland, marsh, river, tributary,Eastern Shore,Talbot County,Maryland
