1993 Bachelor of Science (Marine & Terrestrial Ecology) from the University of Queensland, Australia

EMPLOYMENT

2003- Science Integration Consultant
2002-2003 Chesapeake Postdoctoral Scholar, University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science
1999-2001 Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Marine Botany Group, at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia
1996-1999 Research Assistant, University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia
1994-1996 Research Assistant, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Brisbane, Australia

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

I am currently working with the Integration and Application Network at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science to develop novel ways to better communicate environmental issues through interactive websites.

In my previous position with the Marine Botany Group at the University of Queensland, Australia, I was the task co-ordinator for the biological monitoring component of the Ecosystem Health Monitoring Program. I gained extensive experience with the development, implementation and interpretation of biological indicators. My honours and PhD research involved the development of macroalgal bioindicators for determining nutrient sources. I have been involved in several consultancies determining ecosystem health using a variety of techniques including isotopic analysis of various fauna, flora and sediments. The Marine Botany Group at The University of Queensland has been instrumental in the development of monitoring tools such as δ15N signatures, amino acid metabolic profiling, phytoplankton bioassays and PAM fluorescence techniques to better assess ecological health.

During my PhD and postdoctoral research I have been involved in several projects monitoring the ecosystem health in marine, estuarine and freshwater systems. In most cases I was responsible for writing the initial proposals, including the development of project budgets. I was responsible for all aspects of the sampling design and implementation, data interpretation and analysis and report writing.

I have been a reviewer of scientific papers for the journals, Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science, the Journal of World Aquaculture Society, and Aquaculture Engineering.
