Moderate ecosystem health: Overall health is the same as last year. Aquatic grasses remained steady at healthy levels after several years of improvement.
  • Water quality: Both dissolved oxygen (74%) and chlorophyll a (51%) scores for 2009 decreased slightly from 2008; chlorophyll a remained consistent with past scores, but the 2009 dissolved oxygen score is the lowest on record and has been declining for the past three years. Water clarity, which began to decline in 1999 and reached a record low in 2003 (6%), continues to slowly improve with a score of 32% in 2009.
  • Biotic indicators: Benthic community condition, which in 2008 had dropped to the lowest score on record (50%), improved dramatically in 2009 to a score of 84%. Conversely, phytoplankton community condition scores dropped sharply from 2008 levels, going from 53% to 22%.
