Carolina in my Mind

At the end of the Ecodrought workshop in Raliegh, North Carolina, I sang the song ‘Carolina in my Mind‘, adapted from song of the same name written by a North Carolina native, James Taylor. The people named in my version of the song are Cari Furiness, North Carolina State University, Ryan Boyles and Jerry McMahon, US Geological Survey. The lyrics to the song are the following:

In my mind I’m going to Carolina.
Can’t you see the sunshine,
Can’t you just feel the super moonshine?

Ain’t it just like a drought to focus our minds
Yes, I’m going to Carolina in my mind.

Cari she’s the organizer
You best call her to get through the door,
Ryan he’s the guy who got us all to come
Talking about ecodrought where rainfall is aplenty
I’m going to Carolina in my mind.

There ain’t no doubt in no ones mind that drought in the Southeast can come around,
Which is tough on mussels and riverweed.
And hey, folks, the state’s on fire, it’s happenings, ain’t it?
I’m going to Carolina in my mind.

In my mind I’m going to Carolina.
Can’t you see the sunshine,
Can’t you just feel the super moonshine?
Ain’t it just like a drought to focus our minds
Yes, I’m going to Carolina in my mind.

High rainfall but high ecosystem use
And I think I might have heard about thirsty cities
The balance is off and and drought is no ruse
And signs that might be omens say we’re in for more
I’m going to Carolina in my mind.

Now with a host of Jerry’s team standing round me
We’re on track to produce a newsletter
And it seems like it may take forever,
But we’ll get it done
And I’ll not forget going to Carolina in my mind.
