data download
« on: June 19, 2006, 03:52:28 pm »
Is it possible to download survey data instead of simply reading it online? Thanks.

Hi daviasl,

Please let me know exactly what data you are looking to download. There are options to download the data that you enter into the survey in an Excel spreadsheet format.
I can't seem to locate your email address in our database - have you already registered for the survey? If so, did you use a different email address? Are you actually just wanting to download data from the 'database', rather than what has been entered for this years survey?

Please provide more information on exactly what you are after and I will see if we can help.

Thanks,
Adrian

Adrian,
Okay, I think I have a better understanding of this now.

Yes, I am looking to download data from the database, and am NOT entering data into the survey.  I'm sorry for any confusion.

thanks,
Lori

Hi Lori,

I am going to PM you right now with an excel version of the database. It contains all the data that it accessible from the 'database' on the NEEA website. The only thing is that several of the parameters on the website are calculated from values in the spreadsheet, so you won't see everything in the spreadsheet, but it is possible to calculate them all. It would be great, if I can find the time, to produce a nice friendly version of the database exported with all parameters to an excel file. I will put this on the list, but I don't expect it will happen anytime soon.

Cheers,
Adrian

Adrian,

Thanks again for the file.  I do have one more question, though: where an estuary has more than one entry, as is the case for the Chesapeake Bay, does combining the mainstem and other tributaries cause any redundancy in the data?  For example, combining the catchment population of the mainstem Chesapeake with all other Chesapeake rivers yields a combined population of 13.8M, which is close to another estimate I found for the Chesapeake of 13M, which leads me to think that there is little overlap of the geographic extent of the data associated with each waterbody.

Thanks
Lori

Hi Lori,

There are likely to be some issues like with the data for sure, but I think I need to get Suzanne Bricker (the NEEA program leader) to weigh in on this and give her explanation. I will email her and get her to respond.

Cheers,
Adrian

I am interested in this same data download, for all NEEA estuaries. Not all the parameters shown on the online database are available at the main NEEA data site I've found, the NOAA CAF/Coastal Geospatial Data site (http://coastalgeospatial.noaa.gov/). For example, while the Physical Characteristics table in the NEEA online database shows Estuarine volume and depth, and the Hydrology table shows average salinity and tidal exchange, the pandh_eda_h file (http://coastalgeospatial.noaa.gov/data_table.html) doesn't.

Also, any word on roughly when are the 2004 NEEA Update report & data expected to be released?

Thank you! Cheers,

-Emilio Mayorga

Hi Emilio

You are right that the data is different from site to site. I'm not sure why that is since the data we have for the NEEA at the NEEA site is largely derived from the CAF. I'm not sure what to say except that I guess to acquire all the data you want, you'll have to download from the NEEA. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful about the CAF.

And the timeframe for completion and release of the 2004 report is early May 2007, if all goes well. We are in the process of revising the draft report per comments of our reviewers.

Cheers,
Suzanne

Suzanne,

Thank you for your quick reply! Thanks also for the information about the status of the 2004 Update report.

As for the data, I understand that the files distributed by the CAF sites are what they are. But the additional information I'm looking for is in the NEEA database on this site (http://ian.umces.edu/neea/siteinformation.php). Currently the NEEA online system only provides information one estuary at a time, in a form that's great for reading but not so convenient for analysis, especially if dealing with multiple estuaries. The Excel file that Adrian created and refers to on his June 20, 2006 message in this thread seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. Is it possible to get a copy of that file?

Thanks for your help. Cheers,

-Emilio

Adrian,

Thank you!! I got the file. As you explained in a previous message in this thread, I can see that some of the parameters shown on the online system are not in the file but can be calculated. This file is exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks to both you and Suzanne for your help. Cheers,

-Emilio

Hello-
I am also very interested in obtaining a copy of the complete database that the previous users described above.  Is that still possible?
Thank you!

Hello-

Might I also receive the excel file with the data?

Also, I wonder if the susceptibility, influencing factors, nitrogen load ratings that are in the report are available in some sort of spreadsheet form?

And finally (I apologize if this should be a separate post) is there a shape layer available for the boundaries used in this analysis? And/or are they a standard classification system (e.g., HUCs)?

Thank you,
Chris
