This is just a modification of the existing prawn symbol, but necessary for our work as these species are quite different from commercial prawn species.
Scientific Name: Macrobrachium tolmerum
Common name: Commonly referred to as long-armed prawn. However there are two species found in South East Queensland that are both referred to as "long-armed prawns".
Info: As the name suggests long-armed prawns have elongated legs that form long claws. M. tolmerum is about 100 mm in length, commmon on offshore islands in SE QLD, Australia. Tolerant of acidic conditions. Adults live in fresh water, but larvae require high salinities for development and complete inital life-cycle stages in estuaries. More info can be found here
