Extraneous Folder Created During Setup
« on: July 15, 2004, 12:54:25 pm »
I recently installed the latest version of the IAN Symbol Libraries(ian_symbols_4_1_1_full.exe), and discovered that the installation created a rogue folder called Presets at the root of my C: drive (C:\Presets). This has been confirmed by AdrianJ as an error in creation of the install package, and not a figment of my imagination (inside joke for AdrianJ:). AdrianJ has indicated that he will fix this minor glitch and rebuild the installer.

In the meantime, the folder is, as the subject indicates, extraneous and should you find this folder, it can de deleted.

FYI - While composing this note, I installed the Libraries on another computer to check something, and discovered that if Illustrator is NOT installed, the symbols/swatches are installed under c:\presets.

Thanks for the heads up on the extra Presets folder - due to an error in the installer it was being created on any computer with only one version of Illustrator installed. You are right in saying that it serves no functional purpose and can be safely deleted. I have just updated the installer for both the complete package and the symbols only version (4.1.2) so this folder is no longer left behind after the install process, so anyone downloading the libraries from now on will not be affected.

Regarding the installation to C:\Presets if Illustrator is not present on the target computer - this appears to only occur if Illustrator was previously installed on the computer, but subsquently uninstalled prior to installing the symbol libraries. This is a problem with the windows registry retaining information on Illustrator! This should not affect many people, but it will be fixed in the next major version release of the libraries. If Illustrator 10 or better has never been installed, the installer will notify the user that they do not have Illustrator and will not install the libraries at all.

Thanks for your help in diagnosing these problems,

Adrian
