June 30. Arrived in the evening from Emmitsburg and took position on the Chambersburg Pike.
July 1. Advanced with the Cavalry went into position with right section on right of the road left section on the left and centre with Col. Wm. Chamble's Brigade on the right of Fairfield Road. The first Union gun of the battle was fired from right section and the positions held under a severe fire until the First Corps arrived about 10 A. M. The Battery was then relieved by Capt. J. A. Hall's 2D Maine Battery and after being supplied with ammunition returned about 3 P M. but under a front and enfilading fire it retired to a line in front of Cemetery Ridge and towards night moved to the left about a mile and bivouacked for the night near theThird Corps.
July 2. A. M. marched with the First Brigade of Major General John Buford's Division to Taneytown en route to Westminster.

DoD Petroglyph: (Hawaiian Honu) Illustration of a petrogylph (cave drawing) of a Hawaiian Honu (green sea turtle) symbol,vector,illustration,culture,anthropology,petroglyph,cave,drawing,carving,etching,incising,painting,large,green,sea,turtle,Cheloniidae,Chelonia,Hawaiian,Honu Devil's Den Devil's Den near Little Round Top, Gettysburg. This outcropping of massive igneous boulders was the site of fierce fighting on July 2, 1863, with a Confederate assault by Lt Gen James Longstreet's First Corps through this area. Conducted by the division of Maj. Gen. John Bell Hood, and including both the Texas Brigade and 3rd Arkansas, the charge was directed towards the left flank of the Union Army of the Potomac and hit Devil's Den as well as the high ground at Little Round Top. Devil's Den was defended by the Union III Corps division of Maj. Gen. David B. Birney, later reinforced by the V Corps. Civil,War,Gettysburg,National,Military,Park National Park,Service,Pennsylvania
