EDUCATION

1997-2001

PhD
University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia
Area of Specialization - Biological Oceanography
Title:Development of Indicators for Assessing and Monitoring Nutrient Influences in Coastal Waters

This research involved designing techniques and procedures for assessing nutrient and sediment inputs in coastal systems. Three case studies were used to test applicability of these techniques in relation to urban, agriculture and aquaculture inputs. Techniques that proved successful have been incorporated into state agency monitoring programs.

1995-1996

Bachelor of Science (Honours - Class I)
University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia
Title: Marine macroalgae (Rhodophyta) as a biological indicator of pulsed nutrients in oligotrophic environments

This study investigated the effects of anthropogenic nutrient discharges into sensitive marine environments of central Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef. Results showed these environments to be nitrogen limited and that marine plants were applicable for detection of pulsed nutrients in low nutrient marine waters.

1992-1994

Bachelor of Science
University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia
Major: Botany / Zoology / Ecology
