Chapter 2: Global Warming and the Free StateGlobal Warming and the Free State, which is Chapter 2 of the just released Maryland Commission on Climate Change's Climate Action Plan, has been printed as a stand-alone report. It is an assessment of the likely consequences of the changing global climate for Maryland's agricultural industry, forestry and fishery resources, freshwater supply, aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, and human health. IAN staff worked with Don Boesch, President of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, to produce this chapter, along with the Scientific and Technical Working Group of the Maryland Commission on Climate Change.

Reducing Maryland's Vulnerability to Climate Change

Reducing Maryland's VulnerabilityComprehensive Strategy for Reducing Maryland's Vulnerability to Climate Change, which is Chapter 5 of the just released Maryland Commission on Climate Change's Climate Action Plan, is being printed as a stand-alone report. It makes recommendations to state lawmakers and policy makers to mitigate these impacts by taking action and committing resources to protect Maryland's future economic well-being, environmental heritage, and public safety from sea-level rise and climate change. IAN staff worked with Zoe Johnson, Program Manager with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, to produce this chapter on behalf of the Maryland Commission on Climate Change, Adaptation and Response Working Group, chaired by MD DNR Secretary John Griffin.

River Journeys published

River Journeys BookA richly illustrated book, titled River Journeys, was released at the 11th annual Riversymposium in Brisbane, Australia. This book provides personal accounts derived from interviews with Riverprize recipients over the past 10 years. Jane Thomas and Bill Dennison of the Integration and Application Network made contributions to River Journeys, including a summary chapter. Jane Thomas, Ben Longstaff and Bill Dennison contributed poster and oral presentations at this year's Riversymposium. The recipient of this year's International Riverprize was the St. John's River in Florida, USA. Copies of River Journeys can be obtained from the International Riverfoundation.

Mesoamerican Reef Report Card in progress

Report Card Team PhotoThe Integration and Application Network is working closely with Melanie McField, coordinator for the Healthy Reefs for Healthy People Initiative, to produce a report card on the health of the Mesoamerican Reef. Melanie came to IAN for a week of intensive data analysis and synthesis, and product layout and design. The report card will highlight coral and reef biota health and describe human pressures on the system. Look for the final report in the upcoming months.
