Cheakamus River
The Cheakamus River flows from Garibaldi Provincial Park, through Whistler to Squamish. 40, 000 litres of sodium hydroxide were spilled into the river on August 5th, 2005 when a CN rail tanker derailed. Estimates suggested that >90% of all the species of fish in the river were killed.
