The setup consists of a buoy, rope, perforated plastic cup (cabled tied to the rope), a fishing sinker (also cable tied to the rope) to keep the chamber from floating to the surface and a heavy weight (bricks) at the bottom
Macroalgal Incubation Setup
A secchi disk being lowered into the water to measure water clarity
Measuring Secchi Depth
Gracilaria being placed into a perforated plastic cup before in situ incubation to map sewage plumes using changes in its 15N isotopic signature
Placing macroalgae into incubation chamber
Tanks to conduct marsh research by simulating tidal cycles - at the Horn Point Laboratory

Multiscale Experimental Ecosystem Research Center mesocosms for investigating the effects of scale on research outcomes
MEERC Mesocosms
CBOS (Chesapeake Bay Observing System) buoy at the mouth of the Choptank River. There are several of the units throughout Chesapeake Bay, maintained by the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science
CBOS Buoy
'Sewage Plume Mapping' technique measures the stable nitrogen isotope signature of macroalgae deployed in situ, housed in a perforated transparent container suspended from a buoy and anchored by a weight. Several hundred of these rigs are deployed in a region to map the nitrogen isotope signature.
