Development of an Ecosystem Health Report Card for Bhitarkanika National Park, Odisha, India

UMCES Integration and Application Network has been working with the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) since 2012 to develop science-based solutions for coastal communities. This project is a collaborative effort of NCSCM, UMCES, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change to develop an ecosystem health report card for Bhitarkanika Conservation Area in Odisha, India. Creating a collective vision for integrating ecology, environment, socio-economics, and institutional perspectives is critical for effective management of Bhitarkanika through long-term monitoring and capacity building. This report card will serve as a benchmark for science-based management of coastal and marine protected areas in India.
