Galesville Resiliency

Galesville Resiliency

Galesville, Maryland, is a waterfront community on the West River, a tidal tributary of the Chesapeake Bay. This tight-knit community has a rich maritime history dating back to the 17th century. By the end of this century, however, sea level is expected to rise more than 3.5 feet, storms will intensify, and temperatures will climb. These changing conditions threaten the town and its maritime way of life. In collaboration with Blacks of the Chesapeake, this project will center local voices in building a more resilient Galesville through nature-based solutions.

Nature-based solutions, such as living shorelines and restored marshes, help reduce flooding and erosion, while protecting and restoring the natural beauty that makes Galesville a special place to call home. We will work closely with the community to-

1. Create a shared vision of a resilient Galesville

2. Assess resilience threats and vulnerabilities

3. Increase knowledge and understanding of nature-based solutions

4. Develop options and assist in navigating the next steps for implementing solutions
