On May 22 and 23, Heath Kelsey and I had the opportunity to travel to Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory, the “top end” of Australia. The park covers some 20,000km2, making it Australia's largest national park. Our site visit provided the context for the project we were visiting Charles Darwin University for - to help synthesize and communicate the key findings of the National Environment Research Programme (NERP) scientists studying the Kakadu floodplains.

They have a network of people in 188 countries who are concerned about the effects of climate change and the lack of action, globally and locally. May 5 is the day they are rallying this network to create a global day of action by holding "Connect the Dots" events all over the world.

Tim Carruthers and I have just completed two site visits to the War in the Pacific National Historical Park (WAPA) on Guam and the American Memorial Park (AMME) on Saipan. The IAN science communication workshops went really well and the parks' managers and staff were very excited and engaged in forging two new products, a park brochure for WAPA and a poster for AMME, both featuring the natural and cultural resources of the parks.

Tim Carruthers and Jane Hawkey are visiting Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park located on the shore of west Hawai'i. Working with National Park Service managers and staff from the park and from the Pacific Island Network, we are drafting a natural resource condition report, using the NPS Rock Creek Natural Resource Condition Assessment report as a model.
