Job Opportunity - Program Coordinator: Adapting to Climate Change

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science invites applications for a program coordinator who will work on two grant-funded programs related to climate change. The focus of the Program Coordinator is to 1) enhance the ability of State agencies and local governments to enact new laws, policies, and outreach programs that will assist citizens to adapt to a changing climate, and 2) assist in the collection, analysis, planning, reporting, and dissemination of climate change resources.

South East Queensland Flood Newsletter

Flood newsletter coverThe 2011 floods in South East Queensland were devastating to the people and economy of Queensland, with lives lost and homes and infrastructure destroyed. As communities across Queensland rebuild their homes and businesses, the impact of the floods on the ecosystems that support commercial and recreational activities of the state are unknown. The flood has already had a short term impact on water quality in the river and Moreton Bay, and increased risks associated with human contact and shipping. Bay Action Plan Blog

Bay Action Plan blogAfter decades of effort, the voluntary, collaborative approach to restoring the health and vitality of the Chesapeake Bay—the largest estuary in the United States—has not worked and, in fact, is failing. A diverse group of 57 senior scientists and policymakers have joined forces to save the Bay. The Bay Action Plan Blog is dedicated to promoting a comprehensive 25-step science-based proposal by 57 senior policymakers and scientists determined to clean up the Chesapeake Bay. 2010 Magothy River Index

Magothy River Index coverThis report card is an assessment of the aquatic health of the Magothy River, and is based on data collected by the Magothy River Associationand various partners. It reports the status of vital habitats and water quality in the Magothy during 2010 based on three different indicators; water clarity (Secchi depth ≥ 1 m), dissolved oxygen (> 5 mg/L), and SAV area. The 2010 health index, 22% (D-), was the same as last year.
