Underground Underwater

Underground Underwater

The Underground Underwater project will create an immersive exhibit that tells the story of how waterways, marshes, and forests were important parts of Harriet Tubman’s world and show how they are being impacted by climate change. Working in collaboration with the Harriet Tubman Freedom Center, Maryland Department of Transportation, and VRCOLAB, IAN will create habitat maps and graphics of the Ben Ross Homesite and Thompson Quarter for the past, present, and future. These maps will be combined with a 3D virtual reality tour and storytelling to bring these two foundational locations to life for future generations. This immersive experience will create a powerful emotional connection that will also bring to life how sea level rise, flooding, shoreline erosion, and land loss threaten places important to our shared history and cultural identity.
