For the last decade, the State of Maryland has invested in and made progress toward adaptation. Through increased funding, planning, regulatory changes, and restoration, Maryland has become a leader in coastal and climate adaptation. However, there is a need to clarify adaptation goals in order to measure progress and hold the state accountable.

This document describes the scoring processes for the 15 indicators used in the 2021 Maryland Coastal Adaptation Report Card.

The National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), jointly with the Odisha Forestry Sector Development Project (OFSDP-II) and the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, brought together over 40 local and regional experts and stakeholders in February 2019. Together the group chose ecosystem health indicators, thresholds and a reporting framework for Bhitarkanika Conservation Area.

This companion document to the 2020 Mississippi River report card contains information about data sources for all indicators, summary of analysis methods, and scoring details for each of the six America’s Watershed Initiative goals, and for two watershed wide indicators.
