Along with the release of v6.0 of the IAN Symbol Libraries (see the blog announcement), IAN has developed a free online diagram creator. This tool allows users to create conceptual diagrams in their web browser without the need for expensive software. The diagrammer connects directly to our symbol library database so that users can search for symbols by keywords, browse the albums, select from an IAN project symbol set, or work from their lightbox collection.

Bill Dennison is one of the keynote speakers at the 4th European Conference on Coastal Lagoon Research: Research and Management for the Conservation of Coastal Lagoon Ecosystems, South - North comparisons which aims to strengthen the scientific network specialized in the study of coastal lagoon ecosystems. The conference to be held in December is being hosted by the University of Montpellier.

Ricky Arnold to speak at MEES Colloquium

MEES graduate and NASA astronaut, Richard Arnold, will be the guest of honor at the MEES Colloquium on Thursday Nov. 12th at the Banneker-Douglass Museum. Born in Cheverly and raised in Bowie, Maryland, Richard Arnold earned his M.S. from the MEES program in 1992 under the guidance of Dr. Bill Dennison.

The report card gives the Maryland Coastal Bays a C-plus for ecosystem health in 2008. The study measured distinct differences in ecosystem health throughout the shallow bays behind Ocean City and Assateague, with southern regions such as Chincoteague Bay ranking higher than western tributaries such as the St. Martin River and Newport Bay. The Coastal Bays Report Card provides a scientifically robust – and geographically detailed –assessment of ecosystem health.
